The Waitresses was an experimental New Wave band from Akron, Ohio. The group was led by guitarist/songwriter Chris Butler with lead vocals performed by Patty Donahue. They were best known in the UK for the song "Christmas Wrapping", which still gets airtime on the radio every Christmas. In the USA they had minor success with the song "I Know What Boys Like," from their 1982 debut album Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful. "I Know What Boys Like" was originally released as a single in 1980 but did not chart. In 1982 the song peaked at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100, #23 on Billboard's Top Tracks chart and #14 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report). The Waitresses also recorded the theme song to the television program Square Pegs which aired during the 1982–1983 season. Their new wave Christmas song "Christmas Wrapping" was originally released on the ZE Records album A Christmas Record in 1981, and became a #45 hit in the United Kingdom in 1982. The song was subsequently covered by the Spice Girls in 1998, as the B-side of their single "Goodbye". Butler's diverse musical interests are apparent from the use of prepared piano on "No Guilt," microtonal background vocals on the chorus of "Wise Up," tape loops and short wave receiver on "Jimmy Tomorrow," and the title of "Make the Weather" (taken from Hugo Ball's autobiography Flight Out of Time). Saxophonist and reed player Mars Williams had also worked as Anthony Braxton's copyist. The band's lead singer Patty Donahue left in summer 1984 and was briefly replaced by Holly Beth Vincent. Vincent left the band two weeks later, and Donahue later came back. The band finally split up in late 1984 after the departures of Carney and Klayman. After the group's break up, talks of reunions took place. However, in 1996 lead singer Patty Donahue died of lung cancer at age 40 so the idea of reuniting came to an end.
Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful? (1982)
Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful? is The Waitresses' debut album, released on January 11, 1982 originally on ZE Records and subsequently licensed by Polydor. The album peaked at # 41 in the Billboard chart and included the earlier single "I Know What Boys Like." The only single taken from this album was I Know What Boys Like, which charted to #62 in the U.S.

Bruiseology is the second and last studio album by The Waitresses, released in May, 1983. The album became a flop and they disbanded a year later. The album charted to #155 in the U.S and once again just one single was taken from this album and that was Make the Weather.

Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise money for relief of the 1984–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The original version was produced by Midge Ure and released by Band Aid on 29 November 1984. In late 1984, a BBC report by Michael Buerk was aired highlighting the famine that had hit the people of Ethiopia. Irish singer Bob Geldof saw the report and wanted to raise money. He called Midge Ure from Ultravox and together they quickly co-wrote the song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?". Geldof kept a November appointment with BBC Radio 1 DJ Richard Skinner to appear on his show, but instead of discussing his new album (the original reason for his booking), he used his airtime to publicise the idea for the charity single, so by the time the musicians were recruited there was intense media interest in the subject. Geldof put together a group called Band Aid, consisting of leading Irish and British musicians who were among the most popular of the era. The 1984 original became the biggest selling single in UK singles chart history, selling a million copies in the first week alone. It stayed at Number 1 for five weeks, becoming Christmas number one, and sold more than 3.5 million copies domestically. It remained the highest selling single in UK chart history until 1997, when Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997" was released in tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, which sold almost 5 million copies in Britain.

Wilson Phillips is an American vocal group consisting of sisters Carnie Wilson Wendy Wilson and childhood friend, Chynna Phillips. Their 1990 self-titled debut album sold over 10 million copies worldwide, and scored three number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 making the trio, at the time, the best-selling female group of all time. In 1990, the group won the Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for Hold On, and in addition was nominated for four Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards. The band broke up in 1993 due to Chynna Phillips feeling exhausted therefore causing the group to take a break and the sisters having their own music project and Chynna having her solo career. However, they didn't release any albums until 2004 and they have been going on ever since.

Christmas in Harmony is Wilson Phillips' fourth and so far last studio album, released on October 12, 2010. It is their first in six years, after their 2004 covers album California. The album sees them reunite with Glen Ballard, who also produced their first two albums. It is the first Christmas album of the group, although the Wilson sisters released a Christmas album in 1993, titled Hey Santa!, and Carnie Wilson released a solo Christmas album titled Christmas with Carnie in 2007. It includes a mixture of traditional Christmas carols, covers of Christmas themed songs and new compositions. The song "Warm Lovin' Christmastime" was written by Carnie's husband, Rob Bonfiglio, and was originally included on Carnie's solo Christmas album. The first single to be released is "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day", and the group have filmed a videoclip for it.

Hey Santa! (1993)
Hey Santa! is The Wilsons' debut album, released on October 5, 1993. It entered the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart on December 25, 1993. The album was the first album recorded by the Wilson sisters after the group Wilson Phillips went on hiatus. The album was not a commercial success, peaking at #116 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, and reaching #25 on the Top Holiday Albums chart. The track listing for the album consists of eleven Christmas standards, plus the original title track, Hey Santa, written by Jack Kugell and Carnie & Wendy Wilson. The title track is about a man returning home to his love on Christmas, after his love wished that Santa would "bring [her] baby home tonight." SBK Records released one single to radio and retail. Hey Santa, backed with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, was issued on cassette single and on a green vinyl 45rpm, SBK S7-17648-A, and reached #22 on the Billboard Top Adult Contemporary chart. It also reached #1 on the Billboard Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart, often shown as #101 on the Hot 100 in Billboard reference books. The single still receives recurrent airplay during the Christmas holiday season. Carl Wilson, Carnie & Wendy's Uncle and a Beach Boy founding member, features prominently in the backing vocal. The album also features a Wilson family recording from 1977 of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus that features the Beach Boys on backing vocals and a wide range of Beach Boys band members' children, including Matthew & Adam Jardine, Hailey & Christian Love, and Jonah & Justyn Wilson. Hey Santa was later reissued with the same content and a two-page booklet without lyrics in 1999 with the catalog number 98289 by EMI/Capitol Special Markets on both CD and cassette. As of November, 2007, this version of Hey Santa is still available. In 2007, Carnie Wilson released a solo Christmas album, Christmas With Carnie, that features new versions of many of the same songs.

Gilliam Chynna Phillips was born on February 12, 1968 in Los Angeles, California. She is an American singer and actress, known for being a member of Wilson Phillips and for being the daughter of The Mamas & the Papas' band members John and Michelle Phillips and the half-sister of actress Mackenzie Phillips, Bijou Phillips, Jeffrey Phillips, Tamerlane Phillips, and Austin Hines. She also has a former stepbrother Gray Hines, and an adopted brother Aron Wilson.
Naked and Sacred (1995)
Naked and Sacred is Chynna Phillips' first and only studio album, released on November 7, 1995. She was the only member of the group to remain on her label, EMI, after they went on an indefinite break in late 1992. It was a commercial failure, selling only a scant 22,000 copies in the United States according to Billboard.com. Chynna co-wrote 9 of the 11 tracks, featuring productions from Rick Nowels, Glen Ballard (who produced the majority Wilson Phillips' previous work), and Desmond Child. According to Chynna, she was offered $1 million to record a solo album for EMI, and was dropped shortly after due to poor sales. Three singles were commercially released from the album: "Naked and Sacred", "I Live For You", (which was featured in the 1996 movie Striptease starring Demi Moore), and "Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me". The album track "Remember Me" was released in promo form and sent to U.S. radio in 1996, but was never commercially released and never charted. "Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me", which was written by Diane Warren and later recorded as a duet by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (featured on Hill's Faith), was released internationally in 1996.

Sandra Ann Lauer was born on May 18, 1962 in Saarbrücken, Germany. She is a German born Euro disco singer/songwriter who had a string of top 20 hits during the 1980s & early 1990s, with the help of her former husband Michael Cretu. Sandra was the lead singer of the female disco trio Arabesque, (1979 - 1984) which had a large following in Japan & Russia. She also provided vocals on the album releases (1990 - 2001) of the very successful Enigma. She is currently living in Ibiza, Spain with her husband Olaf Mendez, and has two children from her marriage to Michael Cretu, the twins Nikita and Sebastian. After enjoying some success as a lead singer of the disco trio Arabesque, Sandra began performing solo , with Michael Cretu as manager, producer and composer for her first international #1 hit-single "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" in 1985. Sandra (with her unique high pitched vocals) has topped the charts from as far afield as Sweden, Egypt, France, South Africa, Israel, Japan and Brazil with 18 top 20 hits from 1985 - 1992. She still remains very popular in Europe, being considered one of the most popular singers of the 1980s in the mainland Europe and is also well loved in the gay community. Sandra is still actively recording new material, and has blossomed into a talented songwriter. Beside "Maria Magdalena", her greatest hits are "In the Heat of the Night" (1985), "Hi! Hi! Hi!" Close to Seven is Sandra's fifth studio album, released on February 2, 1992. Because of the overwhelming success of Enigma, and an almost two-year break after Paintings in Yellow, there was a gap in Sandra's career, which was finally closed, with this album. The album continued a development towards a more meditative, less dance-oriented musical style. Sandra wanted to get rid of her teen idol image and perform for a more mature audience. This was her first album produced almost completely by Michael Cretu. Close to Seven became another German Top 10 album. The male vocals were sung by Andy Jonas, also known as Andy "Angel" Hart. Fading Shades is Sandra's sixth studio album, released on June 12, 1995. In 1995, while pregnant with twins, Sandra recorded and released Fading Shades. The album saw a new writer/producer Jens Gad working alongside Michael Cretu. The album featured a powerful cover version of "Nights in White Satin" by The Moody Blues. The music video showed only close ups of Sandra's face as she was heavily pregnant at the time. She even had to sit during the recording sessions of the album. Again, Andy "Angel" Hart performed all the male vocals on the album. Note that the album cover was taken from the music video "Nights in White Satin". Sandra's management first tried to find producers from the United Kingdom, but Sandra didn't like the idea of leaving her family for a long period of time. Finally, Sandra contacted Michael Cretu's "right hand", Jens Gad, who produced the entire album. Sandra, for the first time during her career, now participated actively in composing and writing the album. Therefore, the lyrics of the songs are more personal, with Sandra revisiting her childhood and all her sad experiences in them. She worked at Gad's studio at nights, returning home to prepare breakfast for her twins, and then sleeping until they would come home from school. The track "Casino Royale" is an alternative version of a song originally recorded by Polish singer Edyta Górniak, as "Sleep With Me", and later covered by Canadian electronic music outfit Conjure One. Sandra's own alternative version, titled "Sleep", appears as a bonus track on the CD single release of "The Way I Am". The album contains Sandra's second collaboration with Swiss artist DJ Bobo, a song called "Love is the Price". Her first was on their joint 2006 hit single, "Secrets of Love".Also, for the first time, Sandra revealed her new, sexier look in the promotional pictures shot in New York by Bärbel Miebach. The album charted at #16 in Germany. The singles taken from this album were: The Way I Am (#50 Germany), and What Is It About Me.

Back to Life is Sandra's ninth (and so far last) studio album, released on March 27, 2009. The album was recorded in New York and while working on it, Sandra was collaborating with Thomas Anders (famous for his work with Modern Talking) and Toby Gad (famous for his work with Beyoncé Knowles, Fergie, Shakira and others). The album contains 15 songs, most of which were written by Toby Gad. The Internet version of this release contains two bonus tracks for digital download. Back to Life has spawned two singles, "In a Heartbeat" and "The Night Is Still Young", a duet with Thomas Anders of German 80's pop band Modern Talking, along with a video clip for the song. The album was produced by Jens Gad (older brother of Toby Gad), who also co-produced her two previous studio albums, The Wheel of Time and The Art of Love, and also re-mastered a selection of her million-selling singles (of which 12 million have sold worldwide) for her album Reflections, including "(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena" and four new remixes of her 1980s' smash hit "In the Heat of the Night". Sheena Shirley Orr was born on April 27, 1959 in Belshill, Scotland. She became famous for being the focus of an episode in the British television program The Big Time, which recorded her attempts to gain a record contract and her eventual signing with EMI Records. Easton rose to fame in the early 1980s with the pop hits "9 to 5" – known as "Morning Train" in the United States and "For Your Eyes Only". She went on to become more successful in the United States and Japan. She concentrated on her career in the United States, working with Prince, Kenny Rogers, Luis Miguel and many other prominent vocalists and producers. Easton is a two-time Grammy Award winner and has four gold albums and one platinum album in the United States. She has sold over four million album copies in the United States and over 20 million worldwide. She has recorded 16 studio albums, released 23 American singles and 45 singles in all and has had 15 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Easton is the only artist in the history of the Billboard charts to have a Top 5 hit on each of Billboard's key charts: Adult Contemporary, Dance, Pop, Country and R&B. In the United Kingdom, Easton has had three Top 40 albums and eight Top 40 singles. The album was re-released in 1999 by One Way Records and it was again re-released and remastered in 2009 by Cherry Pop Records.

You Could Have Been with Me is Sheena Easton's second studio album, released on September 21, 1981 by EMI Records. The album peaked at #47 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums, spending a whole year on the chart, eventually certified Gold by the RIAA, and also peaked at UK #33 (certified Silver). The biggest hit from the album was "You Could Have Been with Me" (US #15, UK #54). In the UK, the lead single, "Just Another Broken Heart" peaked at #33, while a third single "A Little Tenderness" failed to chart in early 1982. In the US, a track from her first album was included; "When He Shines", which was released as a single and peaked at #30. You Could Have Been With Me became a Top Ten album in Japan, the use of the track "A Little Tenderness" in a television advertising campaign for Noevir Cosmetics boosting the album to a #3 peak, and also Sweden (#2) and Norway (#7). Madness Money and Music is Sheena Easton's third studio album, released in 1982 by EMI Records. This Adult Contemporary ballad-led album includes the hits, "I Wouldn't Beg for Water" (US #64) and "Machinery" (US #57, UK #38), as well as the UK single "Are You Man Enough". Significantly however, the album featured an early recording of the song "Wind Beneath My Wings", which would later be covered by Bette Midler in 1988 and many other artists after. The album was one of Easton's lower-charting efforts, only hitting US #85 and UK #44, but was hugely successful in Scandinavia, and the album sold Gold in Canada. Best Kept Secret is Sheena Easton's fourth studio album, released in 1983. With Best Kept Secret Easton's homebase shifted to the United States - the singer having been more consistently popular there than in her native UK - Best Kept Secret being first album to be recorded in the US (prior to this album Easton had cut the #6 hit duet with Kenny Rogers: "We've Got Tonight", in her first US recording session). The producers of Best Kept Secret: Greg Mathieson and Trevor Veitch had previously worked with Laura Branigan and Best Kept Secret alternated dance tracks in the Eurodisco mode of Branigan's signature tune "Gloria" with ballads. The album's lead single was the dance track "Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)" which became Easton's third solo hit to reach the US Top Ten with a #9 peak on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single was the ballad "Almost Over You" (#25) and another dance track "Devil in a Fast Car" was subsequently issued as a single to reach #79. Best Kept Secret peaked at #33 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart with a chart duration of 38 weeks. Neither the album nor its singles had high chart impact in the UK, Best Kept Secret charting there at #99 while "Telefone..." and "Almost Over You" had respective UK peaks of #84 and #89. In Canada both the Best Kept Secret album and "Telefone..." single were certified Gold by the CRIA. Best Kept Secret was reissued in 2000 on One Way Records, adding the hit duet "We've Got Tonight" with Kenny Rogers. "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres," a duet with Mexican star Luis Miguel, was released as the first single and earned Easton a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Performance - 1984. The album includes a second single "La Noche Y Tú" ("We've Got Tonight"), a duet with Dyango, a Spanish vocalist. The disc was produced by Greg Mathison and Juan Carlos Calderón. No Sound but a Heart is Sheena Easton's eighth studio album, released in 1987 by EMI Records. The album's original U.S. release was canceled, but the album was issued in Canada and Mexico. The album consisted of midtempo and ballad songs. The disc features Journey's ex-front man Steve Perry on backing vocals on "Still in Love" and Eugene Wilde on "What If We Fall In Love". Songs from the album were covered by other artists: Crystal Gayle and Gary Morris featured "Wanna Give My Love" and "What If We Fall In Love" on a 1987 duet album named for the latter song; Celine Dion recorded "The Last to Know" on 1990's Unison; Patti LaBelle covered "Still In Love" on 1989's Be Yourself; and Pia Zadora recorded "Floating Hearts" on 1989's Pia Z. The album was reissued in 1999 by the One Way Records label, marking the first time it has been officially available in the United States. The album produced one single and video, "Eternity", written by Prince. The 1999 reissue added several bonus tracks. This was Easton's final release on the EMI label, where she had started her career. She subsequently moved to MCA Records the following year in 1988. The only single taken from this album was Eternity, written by Prince.

This is one of Easton's best selling albums to date and returned her back to the U.S. and UK charts. The album's title track became a major hit, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, #5 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, and #15 on the UK Singles Chart. Other hit singles from the album include "Days Like This" (#35 on the US R&B chart, UK #43) and "101" (UK #54 US Dance #2). "101" was written for Easton by Prince. One last single was released in the US; "No Deposit, No Return", but failed to chart. The song "Follow My Rainbow" is featured in an episode (Deliver Us From Evil) from Miami Vice where Easton is singing the song in concert minutes before she is killed off in the series. The song made #16 on the Dutch and New Zealand singles chart. The album has a more Urban/R&B sound than previous recordings due to the production by well-known acts such as L.A. Reid, Babyface and John Jellybean Benitez. In 2006, Cherry Red Records (UK) re-released The Lover in Me with bonus tracks. With jazz-tinged arrangements by Patrice Rushen, Easton sings standards but without any string instruments performing. The album was released August 3, 1993. The album was critically acclaimed by Jazz critics and Allmusic.com gave it 4 stars.. The disc was recorded live. Easton wanted to record the disc in a similar fashion to Capitol Records sessions of the 1960s. The song "The Nearness of You" was featured on the soundtrack of "Indecent Proposal" and released as a promo single in some European markets.

The album marked Easton's reunion with producer Christopher Neil, who worked on her first three albums. The songs "Flower In The Rain" and Dance Away The Blues" were both used in a TV episode of the "The Outer Limits" featuring Easton in the episode as a faded rock star called "Fallen Star". "Flower in the rain" was co-written by Sheena and released as a single in France. In "2007" My Cherie was released on 'Itunes' available for download. Freedom is Sheena Easton's thirteenth studio album, released in 1997 in Japan and rereleased in 2007 in the U.S.A. This album of new material consists of smooth, catchy Dance-Pop songs. Easton had producing credits on the project and writing credits on the songs "One Man" and "Love will make you wise". Includes the singles, Modern Girl '97, Love Me With Freedom, and When You Speak My Name. On May 28, 1997 Sheena released "Freedom" on her own label (SkyJay Trax) at the same time she officially opened her website. In February 2007 Fuel Records (Varese Sarabande) re-released "Freedom" with a slip cover and different artwork in (Limited Edition) officially in the United States. The album charted at #53 in Japan. Fabulous is Sheena Easton's fifteenth studio album, released on November 13, 2000. The album was only released throughout Europe, Japan, Australia, and Argentina. The album contains mostly cover versions of hit songs from the 1970s and 80s, and most of them disco classics. There are also two original compositions. The first single released from the album was a remake of "Giving Up Giving In", which had originally been a hit for The Three Degrees in 1978. Easton's version was less successful, peaking at #54 on the UK singles chart. A second single was released in 2001, a cover of Donna Summer's 1982 hit "Love Is In Control" with an accompanying video that was taken from footage of Easton's album launch concert at G-A-Y nightclub in London. However, this too was unsuccessful. In Japan, "Fabulous" was released in February 2001 and the first single was "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" which had originally been recorded by Frankie Valli in the 1960s, though a disco version had been a hit for The Boys Town Gang in the early 1980s. The album was packaged differently from the UK version and included two bonus tracks; "I Need Your Lovin'" (a cover of the 1980 Teena Marie song) and a remix of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You". In Australia, "Fabulous" was released February 24, 2001 and Easton was asked to perform songs from the album to close out 2001 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras ceremonies. The album was a commercial failure in the UK, though the album did enjoy mild success in dance clubs in London, Japan, and Australia. However, the album was not released in the United States. The album peaked at #185 in the U.K. The singles released from this album were: Giving Up Giving In, Can't Take My Eyes off You and Love Is in Control.

The Waitresses was an experimental New Wave band from Akron, Ohio. The group was led by guitarist/songwriter Chris Butler with lead vocals performed by Patty Donahue. They were best known in the UK for the song "Christmas Wrapping", which still gets airtime on the radio every Christmas. In the USA they had minor success with the song "I Know What Boys Like," from their 1982 debut album Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful. "I Know What Boys Like" was originally released as a single in 1980 but did not chart. In 1982 the song peaked at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100, #23 on Billboard's Top Tracks chart and #14 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report). The Waitresses also recorded the theme song to the television program Square Pegs which aired during the 1982–1983 season. Their new wave Christmas song "Christmas Wrapping" was originally released on the ZE Records album A Christmas Record in 1981, and became a #45 hit in the United Kingdom in 1982. The song was subsequently covered by the Spice Girls in 1998, as the B-side of their single "Goodbye". Butler's diverse musical interests are apparent from the use of prepared piano on "No Guilt," microtonal background vocals on the chorus of "Wise Up," tape loops and short wave receiver on "Jimmy Tomorrow," and the title of "Make the Weather" (taken from Hugo Ball's autobiography Flight Out of Time). Saxophonist and reed player Mars Williams had also worked as Anthony Braxton's copyist. The band's lead singer Patty Donahue left in summer 1984 and was briefly replaced by Holly Beth Vincent. Vincent left the band two weeks later, and Donahue later came back. The band finally split up in late 1984 after the departures of Carney and Klayman. After the group's break up, talks of reunions took place. However, in 1996 lead singer Patty Donahue died of lung cancer at age 40 so the idea of reuniting came to an end.
Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful? is The Waitresses' debut album, released on January 11, 1982 originally on ZE Records and subsequently licensed by Polydor. The album peaked at # 41 in the Billboard chart and included the earlier single "I Know What Boys Like." The only single taken from this album was I Know What Boys Like, which charted to #62 in the U.S.
Bruiseology is the second and last studio album by The Waitresses, released in May, 1983. The album became a flop and they disbanded a year later. The album charted to #155 in the U.S and once again just one single was taken from this album and that was Make the Weather.
The Waitresses EP is a self-made compilation which consists of 3 of the 5 tracks from their 1982 EP I Could Rule the World If I Could Only Get the Parts. Here appear their Christmas hit, Christmas Wrapping (#45 U.K.) and the theme song of 1982-1983 high school-centered sitcom Square Pegs, starring a teenage Sarah Jessica Parker.
